Five Question Friday (on Sunday)

Five Question Friday

1. Flu mist? Flu shot? Or take your chances?

Flu Shot.  Wasn't going to get one but after watching the news this week I went to Walgreens Thursday evening and got one.  I was worried because at school I come in to contact with so many of the students and they tend to be germy.

2. Do your kids have iPads? What are some good educational apps? Price?

My kids are grown, but a couple have some kind of tablet or game system.  The grandkids have game systems.  Don't know about educational.  A couple of them got Kindle Fires for Christmas and I think they were $140--much cheaper than an iPad.

3. What are your favorite boy/girl baby names?

My own children and grand childrens' names are favorites, of course, then:

Emily
Elizabeth
Mary Grace
Julia
Daniel
Joseph
Timothy
Christopher

4. If an apple a day keeps the doctor away, which apple do you choose to eat? (red/green, gala, red delicious...)

Red delicious

5. What is your favorite place to escape to for peace & quiet, to think? Why?

Probably my sewing room.  I don't know if I think a lot in there but it's nice and quiet and I'm alone.

Winter

Well I made it through service  week at school, hopefully my last one.  We had meetings Monday and Tuesday, and on Wednesday I did a tutor training for about twenty tutors, then Friday I did a leader training for 36 SI leaders.  I was exhausted by the end of the week, especially since I have to undecorate this weekend.  I love the Christmas decorations, but all of the sudden I can't wait to get my house back in order.  Of course, I have too many decorations so it takes a few days to put them all away.

It's sleeting outside this evening.  The weather in St. Louis is so strange--it was 65degrees yesterday and 25 this evening.  I knew winter would come sooner or later.  At least we had a preview of spring.  We still have not gotten the drawings from the architect for our addition.  RW called him yesterday and he said he had been in Florida because his mother had been sick.  He said he should have them ready by the end of this week.  My Pinterest is overflowing with pictures of kitchens and bathrooms.  It kind of seems like it's not really going to happen.  I wish I could just go out of town and come home and have it all be done.

Back at Work

Christmas is over.  I'm back at work today.  We had a rather quiet week recovering from Christmas.  John and Chellie left Sunday evening, but not before we had a plumbing problem with the kitchen and bathroom sink backing up.  RW had run Patrick to the airport, then he called in the middle of the upheaval and said he had volunteered to give up his seat for a $400 voucher.  He had friends who lived by the airport, so he called them and stayed with them Sunday night.  Kate and the kids left early Monday.

We had a quiet New Years Eve; a plumber came and got the sinks unstopped up, and we watched Amy's children for a couple of hours in the evening, then went to bed early.  The rest of the week was spent eating and watching TV.  I didn't even do any sewing, though I want to make a birthday dress for Stephanie.  She will be one on the 23rd of this month.  We've been re-watching the first two seasons of Downton Abbey, since season three starts this Sunday.  We've been looking forward to the new season since last spring.  I'm getting ready for two trainings at work, the tutor training all day Wed. and the SI Leader training all day Friday.  I keep reminding myself that this will probably be my last semester here, so I see an end in sight.  I did tell my dean before the holidays that I'll be retiring this summer.  He said we'll talk about it after the new semester gets going.

The Rest of the End of the Year

On Thursday we took it easy, and watched Stephanie while John and Chellie went out to eat.

On Friday evening we had our first big snow, and we went to Happy Joe's for dinner.  John and Chellie were going to leave on Friday, but they decided to wait until Sunday.  It was great having them here for a couple more days.

On Saturday we had Rochelle's baby shower:

End of the Year in Pictures

It's been a busy two weeks.  First Patrick came in on Wednesday evening.  Then we celebrated Katie's birthday on the 21st of December.  Can't believe I've been a grandmother for eleven years.  We went out to eat with them then back to their house for ice cream and cake (cheese cake.)

.

We finally made it to one of Michael's basketball games.  It was pretty cute, a bunch of five year olds running in a pack.  They team they played was all girls, and one little girl, number 34 in the picture below, was really good.  She scored about 12 points.  Michael was supposed to be guarding her, but he'd just jump up and down in front of her with his hands up, then they'd both start giggling.  Needless to say, he didn't stop her from scoring.

Then we started getting more Christmas visitors.  John, Chellie and Stephanie came in late on Saturday evening.

We all went to Amy's on Christmas Eve to exchange gifts.

Christmas morning at Grandma and Papa's:

Then to my sister, Lorie's, for Christmas brunch:

And back to Amy's on Christmas evening:

Then Kate, Corinne and Jack got in on the 26th.  Everyone came to our house to exchange gifts and to eat Imo's:
