Downton Abbey

I have another new love--Downton Abbey.  My daughter gave me the first two seasons for my birthday a couple of weeks ago, and my husband and I have been watching it every night.  We only allow ourselves to watch one episode per evening, so it will last a couple of weeks.  I'd heard people talking about it for months, and now I see the reason for all of the talk.

And here is a picture of my son Johh holding Baby Stephanie:

Pinterest

I have a new addiction.  It's called Pinterest.  It can keep me occupied for hours and hours.  I always have loved looking at other blogs, especially those with decorating ideas, and now I have a place to keep all of those pictures.  It kind of feels like plagiarism, though.  I hope I'm giving others the credit I'm supposed to, but I'm not sure.  It's so cool finding people with similar tastes.

Stephanie's First Bath

Stephanie had her first real bath this week; she didn't like it too much.   Her favorite pass times are nursing and listening to the vacuum cleaner.  My son and d.i.l. called a couple of evenings ago and were so excited they had actually gone out shopping and to eat, and Stephanie cooperated.  They're beginning to think this might work out.  I'm going to see them three weeks from today.  I can hardly wait to see her them again.

I'm Older

I had a birthday yesterday and I'm sixty two.  Wow.  That sounds old.  I remember when the Beatles song "When I'm Sixty Four" came out and I thought I would not even be getting around by the time I was sixty four.  Hmmm.

I had a great birthday, thanks to my family and friends.  My work friends made me a wonderful lunch, with fettucini alfredo with chicken, appetizers, and a strawberry whip cream angel food cake.  Then today, one of my sisters had a "Fancy Aunt Lunch" for me and my baby sister.  She will be forty five on Valentines Day.  I have seven sisters, and four sister in laws, and lots of nieces and nieces in law.  When my mom was alive she used to have everyone over for ice cream and cake on his/her birthday, but after she died in '93 we started celebrating with one another.  Often we go to someone's house, and we use our good china and silver, thus my son in law named it the "Fancy Aunt Lunch."  We come up with a birthday list ahead of time, usually things we would not go out and buy for ourselves, and it's really a fun celebration.  We usually combine two or three birthdays, i.e. my daughter was born on April 14 and so was my sister's daughter, so we celebrate their birthdays together.  Sometimes, if it is a busy time of year, we go out to a restaurant.  It makes getting older less painful, though I can't say I really mind getting older.

Baby Stephanie at Two Weeks

Stephanie is two weeks old today.  Here are some pictures my son sent me:

Baby Stephanie
In dress I made for her--still a little big for her.

Looking around
My son John taking her for her first walk.  She seems to be a calm baby and is already sleeping through the night most nights.
Granddaughter Erin lost her first tooth this weekend.

Abbey Turns Eight

Tomorrow is my granddaughter Abbey's eighth birthday.  She was born on 02/03/04.  She loves clothes, so I went to Justice and bought her a bunch of clothes for spring.  It was my first time in that store; I prefer Gymboree, but the grand girls are getting too old and getting minds of their own.

Abbey is a sweet, darling little girl, very friendly and considerate of others.  Her other grandmother works for a wedding photographer, so she has been doing some modeling in wedding fashion shows.  Happy Birthday, Abbey Rose!

February Goals

January is gone and I did not lose any weight.  My New Years goal was to lost 25 lbs. this year, and I'm not doing very well at it.  A couple of blogs I read have monthly goals, so I thought I'd try that and maybe I'll be more successful.   So, for February I want to:
  • lose 2 pounds
  • clean my sewing room
  • go to bed before midnight
  • clean my office at work
  • get rid of six trash bags of clothes
  • start making granddaughters' Easter dresses
  • blog at least twice a week
