Five Question Friday

Found these questions on another blog I read, so thought I'd answer them.

These are last weeks' questions which I forgot to post:

1What is a must in a hotel room?

Wifi.

2. Which Olympic event would you be best at?

Being a parent in the stands.

3. What's your stance on the Chick-fil-A subject?

Definitely will never eat there again.  In reality, I've only
eaten Chick-fill-A a couple of times while in Cincinnati, so I won't miss it.  I call their freedom of speech freedom to hate.

4. One thing you said you'd never do as a parent,
but totally have.

Said "Because I said so."

5. What's the weirdest thing you've ever
found at a yard sale?

Probably half used make-up.

This week's questions:

1. Thunder storms- love them or hate them?

Love them this summer since we've had so little rain.

2. Do your kids get back to school clothes

They usually did--new uniforms.  Now I'm buying grandkids' back-to-school clothes.

3. Do you golf? Do you watch it?

I do not golf.
I will watch it if one of my sons are over and it's a major championship.

4. Showers or baths?

Shower.

5. What's the strangest meal you ever ate?

Shark meat--in Florida in 1981.

Wordless Wednesday

Ten on Tuesday

1.  We finally had some rain on Saturday, in fact it poured, and it left us for six hours without electricity.

2.  No garage sales on Saturday, due to the rain.  When I awoke to the rain I thought to myself, oh good, I will stay home and get caught up on laundry, mending, ironing and sewing.  Needless to say, that was rather difficult with no electricity.

3.  I forgot to mention last week what I had made Corinne for her birthday.  I made her a new irish solo dance dress.  I had made her first one about a year ago, black velvet with pink trim and cupcake skirt, and was not pleased with it, and it was too wide on her.  With her living a thousand miles away it is difficult to fit anything on her.  This time I made a pale aqua satin with dark pink trim and embroidered a lot of shamrocks and other designs on it.  They were totally surprised when she got it--Kate had been wanting to ask me to make her a new one but thought I was too busy.  I'm looking forward to seeing it on her in pictures when dance starts up again.

4.  I am so thrilled that Aly Raisman won two medals last night.  All of the press had gone to Jordan Weiber and Gabby Douglas, yet Aly has more medals than either of them.  There was even a whole article in the week's Time magazine about Jordan Weiber and how she didn't make the all aroud team--no mention that Aly had scored the highest.

5.  We have lots of birthdays coming up in our family this month.  The 21st is Erin's sixth birthday, the 22nd is Patrick's thirty-third birthday, the 23rd is Michael's fifth birthday, and the twenty fifth is two of my sisters' birthdays--Julie will be 51 and Kay will be 60 (hope they don't mind my saying their ages on here).  I'm doing lots of on-line shopping.

6.  I went to the eye doctor yesterday and ordered new glasses.  My prescription didn't change much, just a little stronger on the bottom part of the bi-focals for reading.  I order some in a dark red--hope they aren't too obnoxious.  I don't really know what is in style but it seems like all of my glasses have been medium brown tortoise-shell and rectangular for the past 20 or 30 years.

7.  Husband is going to a sleep clinic to spend the night tomorrow night.  I'm sure he has sleep apnea and have been bugging him for years to do something about it.  He is up and down all night long and dozes off--or I should say falls into a deep sleep--about four or five times a day.  He also smokes and is overweight (though he's lost about 15 pounds this summer), which are two contributors to sleep apnea.

8.  I go back to my dentist on Friday for a follow-up visit, then I'll be finished with doctors for the summer.  The only one I missed is the gastrointestinologist for my colonoscopy.  I probably should have done that first with our family history, but I called a couple of times and couldn't get through, even left a message which was never returned, and my doctor switched hospitals so I had the perfect excuse not to do it.  As soon as school gets going smoothly I will schedule an appointment.  Man, all of my posts seem to have to do with doctors and illnesses.

9.  My mother in law is getting really bad really quickly with her alzheimers.  She ran into a woman again last week on her scooter and pinned her up against the wall.  She also took her whole weeks' medicines by Thursday, and has been causing trouble at Friendship Village.  The nurse called my husband this morning and said they are going to have to take her scooter away from her.  She went to "driving school" on Monday and failed (she had to go twice before after running in to people).  The nurse also suggested she give up her apartment and move into the nursing home.  I know she will fight that, and I don't blame her.  I hope they let her try a wheel chair for awhile and let her stay where she is.  They think she is a danger to herself in her apartment, which is probably true, but it's still going to be really difficult moving her.

10.  School starts a week from Monday, and I can't believe summer is almost over.  We have meetings all next week, culminating with our leader training on Friday, which is exhausting, then the weekend starts the birthdays.  I think I better sleep this weekend.

Wordless Wednesday

Ten on Tuesday

1.  Went to Cincinnati this past weekend to pick up gds Abbey and Erin, who spent a week with their newest cousin and seeing the sights of Cincinnati, and to see baby Stephanie.

2.  We are loving the Olympics.  I thought the opening ceremony a bit strange and drawn out, but I've loved watching the swimming and gymnastics.  I waited until this morning to finish my ten on Tuesday to see who won in those two events.

3.  USA won the gold for gymnastics.  My daughter lives in Boston and has met Ally Raisman.  A friend of my daughter's has a house on the Cape next door to the Raisman's.  She had an olympic party for Ally Sunday night and it made the Channel 7 news.

4.  Michael Phelps won his nineteenth medal last night.  It sounded like he didn't prepare for these Olympics as well as he did in the past, but he still wins.  His mother must be so proud--notice how I mention his mother?  I loved watching Ally Raisman's parents as she did her routines.  You could see how nervous and anxious they were.

5.  There was a murder/suicide in Glendale, a neighborhood a few miles from where I live and a couple of blocks from my daughter, brother and three younger sisters.  Something doesn't seem right about what happened.  The husband said he was in the house and heard a gunshot and found his wife in the kitchen, his son in the family room, and the daughter upstairs in her bedroom.  He called 911 and reported a murder/suicide right away, but they say it is under investigation and no details have been released.

6.  We had a bit of rain Sunday, but the temperatures are back up over 100 this week.  I think there is some truth to this global warming stuff.

7.  I lost another pound, so that means I lost 3 pounds in July.  I really need to get serious about that, but I think I've said that before.

8.  Can't think of anything else going on, so this will have to be Eight on Wednesday.

Wordless Wednesday

Ten on Tuesday

1.  Having a hard time coming up with ten on Tuesday these days.  I like to keep a record of what's going on in my life and with my family, but I find I'm not writing much during the week now, saving everything until Tuesday.  Also, my ten things can be pretty boring.

2. I was glad to hear of the Penn State Sanctions due to Sandusky.  They have been fined 60 million dollars to help abused children, lose their football victories for the past 12 years. Paterno's statue was removed, amongst others things.  They a bishop from Pennsylvania, I think, was sentenced to six years in jail for moving pedophile priests from one parish to another.  Maybe people will start reporting thses creeps rather than turning the other cheek.

3.  The Batman massacre last Friday morning was shocking.  They keep showing the guy on T.V.; I wish we did not even have to look at him.  It is kind of odd that Colorado seems to have its share of tragedies--Jon Benet Ramsey was murdered, and the killer never found in Boulder, there was the horrible massacre at Littleton and now the killings in Aurora.  My niece and her husband live in Aurora, but they are fine, just sad about the killings.

4.  It is still over 100 every day here, I think for two weeks now.  Our flowers burning up.  We got our electric bill yesterday and it was over $300.  I hate to see what our water bill will be.

5.  We are going to Cincinnati Friday, just for the weekend, to see baby Stephanie.  We got pictures last week and I couldn't stand not seeing her any longer.  I must admit I have seen her almost every month--went in Jan. when she was born;  in March for spring break; they came to St. Louis for Easter; we were together at Gulf Shores in May and all together in Cincinnati in June for her christening.  She changes so much every day, so we have to visit her often.  Loads of pictures to follow.

6.  My older daughter who lives here in St. Louis goes to the New Jersey beach every year the first week in August for her husband's family vacation.  They are leaving Saturday, but found out yesterday her mother in law had intestinal blockage and had to have surgery.  She will be in the hospital 5 to 7 days.  Everyone will still go to the beach, but I feel terrible for her because I know how she plans the whole vacation and looks forward to it all year, like we do with our family in May.

7.  I'm still working on Corinne's b-day present, my Boston granddaughter.  Her birthday is Sunday, but they are going out to the Cape for a long weekend.  Some good friends of my daughter have a house on the Cape next door to a house owned by Ally Raisman's family, one of our olympic gymnists.  They are going to have an big party to celebrate the start of the olympics, though Ally is in London.  Hopefully she will win some medals.

8.  Speaking of Olympics, we are really looking forward to them for the next three weeks.  It's so cool how names we've never heard become household names after a week or two.  Looks like USA has quite a few good athletes and is predicted to win quite a few medals.

9.  I stopped at Great Clips on the way home for work and got a haircut.  About half way through the gal said, "Man, you've sure got a lot of hair."  I apologized.  They always tell me that; maybe I'm supposed to pay double since I have so much hair.

10. Well, it's Wednesday now and I still cannot think of a number ten to write about.  My life is pretty dull, but I kind of like dull.
